This image of the M8 object is the Blue Lagoon nebula. The nebula spans a distance of about 30 light years. The green hues are alpha emissions from atomic hydrogen gas. Sulfur emissions are in red, and oxygen emissions are blue. The nebula serves as a birthplace for new stars.
